The Client

Ruth Weaver has been managing Purple Cow for 25 years. It’s an office supply company with 20,000 products – everything from paperclips and box files to desks and storage units.

The Brief

If you’re busy running a business, Ruth’s story may ring a few bells. While she knows the value of social media for business, when it comes down to posting content there’s not enough time… or enthusiasm.

“I just don’t have the time, inclination, or patience for social media – and I didn’t want to spend time posting stuff about my business.

It needed to be done, but I’m pulled from pillar to post most days.”

The Process

Cale met up with Ruth to get a feel for what she was looking for, and to discuss how social media could work as a tool for promoting Purple Cow.

“Cale is one of those people who you warm to immediately. He’s passionate about social media, and I felt he really cared. He was totally honest about what he could do, and he really knows what he’s talking about.“

Initially, Purple Cow had a presence on both Instagram and Twitter, but we decided to pull back from Twitter. From a marketing perspective, Facebook and Instagram were going to be more valuable for promoting Ruth’s business.

“I realised that Facebook and Instagram could be productive for me – not sales necessarily, but to get people talking about Purple Cow as a business, and to get the name out there.”

The Result

Ruth no longer has to worry about her lack of interest in using social media for business. We’ve taken the chore off her hands entirely so that she can concentrate on what she does best.

“It’s putting my mind at rest. I’ve put my social media into the hands of people who know what they’re doing, so I can get on with my business. And with Purple Cow, I know what I’m doing there.”

Since we started managing her social media, Purple Cow’s presence on social media has increased significantly. The name is out there, being seen on a regular basis. When her followers need office supplies, her business will be at the top of their minds.

“It’s exposure. If people don’t know you’re there, they won’t buy from you. It’s about people talking about your business.
